Pilots Rate Augmented Generalized Predictive Control for Reconfiguration

چکیده
1. Abstract The objective of this paper is to report the results from the research being conducted in reconfigurable flight controls at NASA Ames. A study was conducted with three NASA Dryden test pilots to evaluate two approaches of reconfiguring an aircraft’s control system when failures occur in the control surfaces and engine. NASA Ames is investigating both a Neural Generalized Predictive Control scheme and a Neural Network based Dynamic Inverse controller. This paper highlights the Predictive Control scheme where a simple augmentation to reduce zero steady-state error led to the neural network predictor model becoming redundant for the task. Instead of using a neural network predictor model, a nominal single point linear model was used and then augmented with an error corrector. This paper shows that the Generalized Predictive Controller and the Dynamic Inverse Neural Network controller perform equally well at reconfiguration, but with less rate requirements from the actuators. Also presented are the pilot ratings for each controller for various failure scenarios and two samples of the required control actuation during reconfiguration. Finally, the paper concludes by stepping through the Generalized Predictive Control’s reconfiguration process for an elevator failure.

Design of Generalized Predictive Control for the Stabilizing Loop from a two-axis Gimbal Seeker, Considering Cross-Coupling in Between two Channels
In this research, Generalized Predictivecontrol (GPC) is proposed for the control of a stabilizing loop from a two axis gimbal seeker. In fact, there are some views about using GPC type controller which are two folds. First, it drives the stabilization loops that are made by a DC motor, Rate Gyro, inertia and cross coupling unit in between two channels using the predictive model type controller...
متن کاملRotor Trim by a Neural Model-predictive Auto-pilot
Modern comprehensive finite element-based tools for the aeromechanic analysis of rotorcraft require the ability of accurately computing the model trim settings. Proportional control laws (auto-pilots) have often been used in many practical instances, because this technique is not directly related to the complexity of the system. On the other hand, classical auto-pilots must be carefully tuned f...
متن کاملAutonomous Autorotation of Unmanned Rotorcraft using Nonlinear Model Predictive Control
Safe operations of unmanned rotorcraft hinge on successfully accommodating failures during flight, either via control reconfiguration or by terminating flight early in a controlled manner. This paper focuses on autorotation, a common maneuver used to bring helicopters safely to the ground even in the case of loss of power to the main rotor. A novel nonlinear model predictive controller augmente...

In this paper, a hardware in the loop simulation (HIL) is presented. This application is purposed as the first step before a real implementation of a Generalized Predictive Control (GPC) on a micro-grid system located at the Military University Campus in Cajica, Colombia. The designed GPC, looks for keep the battery bank State of Charge (SOC) over the 70% and under the 90%, what ensures the bes...
متن کاملEffects of Advanced Cockpit Displays on General Aviation Pilots’ Decisions to Continue Visual Flight Rules Flight into Instrument Meteorological Conditions
Thirty pilots flew a simulated VFR cross country flight into deteriorating weather with one of three levels of display support: a control display with standard instruments, a synthetic vision system (SVS) display depicting terrain and a highway in the sky (HITS), and a configuration in which the same SVS HITS display was augmented by an electronic moving map depicting weather. Results revealed ...
